Park
Chatfield Hollow State Park is a 412-acre public recreation area located in Killingworth, Connecticut, known for its mix of natural beauty and historical character.
Established as a state park in 1949, much of the area was developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which built the dam that created the park's centerpiece, the 6.67-acre Schreeder Pond. The park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including 18 miles of hiking trails that lead past Native American caves and jagged rock formations, as well as opportunities for swimming, trout fishing, mountain biking, and rock climbing.
Visitors can also explore historic features such as a restored water wheel, a reproduction covered bridge, and the National Register-listed Oak Lodge, all of which reflect the valley's long history of Native American use and early colonial industry. With its scenic pine groves, cool streams, and accessible facilities, it remains a popular destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts looking to enjoy a peaceful day in the woods.
