Park
Clark’s Lookout State Park is an 8-acre historic site one mile north of Dillon in Beaverhead County, Montana, overlooking the Beaverhead River valley.
On August 13, 1805, during the Lewis and Clark Expedition, William Clark climbed this rocky hill to take compass readings, sketch a map, and scout the route ahead for the Corps of Discovery. Visitors park nearby, follow a short trail to the summit at 5,118 feet elevation to see a granite compass monument marking Clark’s readings, enjoy panoramic views, interpretive signs on expedition history, picnicking, and mild hiking amid wildlife, with the park open seasonally from May to September.
