Park
George Dudley Seymour State Park is a 222-acre scenic reserve located on the eastern bank of the Connecticut River in Haddam, Connecticut.
The park is named in honor of George Dudley Seymour, a prominent 20th-century attorney and historian whose philanthropic foundation was instrumental in preserving various tracts of land across the state. Historically, the site served as the estate of the wealthy Clark family, known as Clarkhurst, and today visitors can still observe the old stone foundations of the estate while walking along the trails.
The park is highly valued for its natural diversity, featuring significant grassland habitats on its floodplain soils that contain rare native grasses dating back to the 1600s. Offering a tranquil experience for outdoor enthusiasts, the park provides opportunities for hiking, fishing, hunting, and bird-watching amidst dramatic scenery that includes rocky cliffs and broad tidal flats along the river.
