Park
Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park near Yarnell, Arizona, is Arizona's first memorial state park, established on 320 acres to honor the 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshot crew who perished on June 30, 2013, while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire ignited by lightning in the Weaver Mountains.
Authorized by House Bill 2624 in 2014 and opened to the public on November 30, 2016, following land purchase and development by the Yarnell Hill Memorial Site Board, it features a free 7-mile round-trip Hotshots Trail—from a trailhead parking lot off Highway 89 with a bronze statue—climbing 1,200 feet through interpretive signs and 19 granite plaques to an observation deck overlooking the fatality site, encircled by protective gabion baskets, flagpole, and tribute wall.
The moderate-to-strenuous hike offers panoramic Weaver Mountain views for reflection on wildland firefighting sacrifice amid chaparral and oak, open sunrise to sunset with shuttle service on busy weekends, no facilities beyond portable toilets, and leashed dogs permitted.
