Park
John A. Minetto State Park is a 715-acre public recreation area located in the towns of Goshen and Torrington, Connecticut.
Established in 1965 on land originally managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers following the construction of the Hall Meadow Brook Dam, the park was later renamed to honor State Senator John A. Minetto, a prominent legislator known as the "Dean of the Senate" and the "Father of Route 8".
The park provides a quiet, free-to-access destination ideal for picnicking, walking, and nature observation, featuring open fields, wooded areas, and a pond that is popular for fishing. During the winter months, it serves as a destination for cross-country skiing, and parts of the property are open for seasonal hunting.
Although some older facilities from its earlier years remain underutilized or submerged as part of the area's flood control infrastructure, the park remains a peaceful spot for visitors to relax and enjoy the natural landscape of the Litchfield Hills.
