Park
Nathaniel Lyon Memorial State Park is a very small, five-acre park located in Eastford, Connecticut, that marks the birthplace of Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union general to be killed in the American Civil War.
Established in 1920, the site features the remains of the original stone chimney and fireplace from the Lyon family homestead. While the park itself is minimal and primarily serves as a memorial, it is completely surrounded by the much larger Natchaug State Forest, which provides extensive opportunities for hiking and nature exploration.
Visitors can access the area via a small parking lot along Kingsbury Road and easily connect to the Natchaug Trail, a blue-blazed path that offers longer hiking routes through the surrounding woodland. It is considered one of the smallest state parks in Connecticut and offers a quiet, historical stop for those traveling through the rural landscape of northeastern Connecticut.
