Park
North Sterling State Park is a roughly 5,000–5,700‑acre Colorado state park on the northeastern plains, about 11 miles north of Sterling in Logan County, centered on the 2,880–3,300‑acre North Sterling Reservoir.
The reservoir was built in the 1980s as an irrigation project but quickly became a major recreation area, with wide open water that draws boaters, fishermen, water skiers, sailors, and paddlers across the flat, grassy landscape. The park offers three campgrounds with over 100 sites, picnic areas, a swim beach at Cottonwood Cove, and about 7 miles of trails along the shoreline that are open to hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
Wildlife is abundant, including waterfowl, eagles, hawks, and other birds that use the reservoir as a stopover, while the surrounding prairie and bluffs give visitors expansive views of the high plains under big Colorado skies.
