Park
Pancho Villa State Park is a historical site in the small border town of Columbus, New Mexico, just 3 miles north of the Mexican border and about 30 miles southeast of Deming at 4,073 feet elevation in the Chihuahuan Desert.
Established in 1987 to commemorate Pancho Villa's 1916 raid on Columbus and Camp Furlong—which killed 18 Americans and prompted General Pershing's Punitive Expedition—it features an exhibit hall with artifacts, historic buildings, interpretive programs, a playground, and botanical garden.
The year-round campground offers 62 sites across North and South Loops with electric hookups, dump station, restrooms, showers, group shelters, fire rings, and excellent birding drawn by irrigation waters, plus nearby hiking on BLM lands and access to Puerto Palomas, Mexico.
