Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park in St. Augustine, Florida, is a privately owned 15-acre site reputed to be the landing place of Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513 when he allegedly searched for the legendary Fountain of Youth.
Although there is no solid historical or archaeological evidence proving this claim, the site has become a popular tourist attraction commemorating the early Spanish exploration and Native American Timucua village that existed there for thousands of years before.
The park features a natural spring claimed to be the fountain, living history exhibits, re-created Spanish and Timucuan buildings, and ongoing archaeological digs that have uncovered remains of early Spanish settlement and fortifications. The attraction was first commercially developed in the early 1900s by Luella Day MacConnell, who popularized the legend.
It was later purchased and preserved by Walter B. Fraser and eventually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. The park offers interpretative programs, reenactments, and exhibits that highlight the historic significance of the site as part of America’s oldest city and earliest European colonial history.
