Park
Colt Creek State Park spans over 5,000 acres in Central Florida's Green Swamp Wilderness Area, 16 miles north of Lakeland off State Road 471, featuring pine flatwoods, cypress domes, hardwood hammocks, open pastures, three lakes, and winding creeks that support bald eagles, alligators, gopher tortoises, Sherman's fox squirrels, deer, otters, and diverse birds. Purchased in 2006 from a cattle ranching family and opened in 2007, former mining pits now form scenic lakes ideal for fishing from shore or a 75-foot accessible dock. Visitors explore 15 miles of multiuse trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, enjoy canoeing or kayaking rentals, primitive and full-facility camping including equestrian sites, picnicking at pavilions, and ranger programs in this restored wilderness.
