Park
O'Leno State Park, one of Florida's oldest state parks developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, spans over 6,000 acres with River Rise Preserve along the Santa Fe River six miles north of High Springs.
The park's highlight is the Santa Fe River disappearing into a massive sinkhole called River Sink, reemerging 3.5 miles downstream, creating a natural land bridge amid diverse habitats of hardwood hammocks, river swamps, sinkholes, and sandhills teeming with deer, foxes, gopher tortoises, and birds.
Visitors cross a historic CCC suspension bridge, swim and fish in the river, hike shaded trails past ruins of the 1880s mill town of Leno, picnic at riverside pavilions, rent canoes or bikes, camp in full-facility sites, and explore cultural remnants like a 1930s swimming hole, all open daily from 8 a.m. to sundown.
