Opened in 1966 as the first U.S. park allowing visitors to collect up to 15 pounds of rocks and minerals like quartz crystals, geodes, jasper, perlite, and thunder eggs for personal use, it features over 10 miles of hiking trails through wildflower-strewn desert terrain, a visitor center with exhibits, and the peaceful Spring Canyon day-use area for picnicking and steep climbs.
Amenities include 29 developed campsites with 23 electric hookups, showers, restrooms, RV dump station, playground, group shelters, and birdwatching amid diverse geology and wildlife.
