Opened in 1974 after the state transformed former ranchland into a reservoir, this 400-acre site provides camping across three lakeside areas, rentable cabins, a boat ramp for electric-motor craft, sandy swimming beach, stone hot tub, picnic spots, restrooms, showers, and five miles of hiking trails near Dankworth Pond for added water access and paths. Renowned for seasonal fishing of stocked largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and sunfish, plus birdwatching with herons, quail, gulls, ducks, and terns drawn to the largest regional waterbody amid shifting desert-to-forest habitats home to deer and the rare Mount Graham red squirrel.
