Park
Santa Rosa Lake State Park lies 7 miles north of Santa Rosa in eastern New Mexico on the plains near the Pecos River, featuring a 3,500-acre reservoir created by a dam completed in 1981 for flood control, irrigation, and sediment retention at around 4,800 feet elevation.
This 13,870-acre park amid piñon-juniper hills and mesas offers boating, jet skiing, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for walleye, bass, and catfish, plus 5.5 miles of scenic hiking trails with rocky overlooks, birdwatching for falcons, eagles, ducks, and more, and horseback riding.
Campers enjoy 75 developed sites including 25 with electric hookups, primitive areas like Los Tanos for equestrians, showers, restrooms, dump stations, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and a visitor center with exhibits on local history and archaeology.
