Park
Selden Neck State Park encompasses a 607-acre uninhabited island in the Connecticut River at Lyme, Connecticut, accessible only by boat and featuring lush woodlands, tidal marshes, and elevations up to 230 feet.
Cut off from the mainland in the 1850s after serving as a farm and red sandstone quarry that supplied New York City pavers, it offers primitive riverside camping at four sites—Cedars, Hogback, Springledge, and Quarry Knob—with outhouses, picnic tables, fire rings, hiking trails to quarry ruins and farm remnants, fishing, hunting, and birdwatching for warblers and migratory waterfowl.
Managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection since initial 1917 acquisitions, the roadless preserve provides serene views of the lower river valley, designated by the Nature Conservancy as one of America's Last Great Places.
