Established in 1970, this rugged day-use and backcountry area offers trout fishing, hiking and floating along the old seven-mile railroad grade trail (ford creek crossings required, best mid-July to September), picnicking, wildlife viewing, hunting, and photography amid swift cold waters and changing weather, with parking and a latrine at Riceville Bridge trailhead but no bridges or facilities deeper in. A permit is needed for backcountry camping, and visitors must prepare for steep terrain and hazards in this historic, scenic canyon.
