Park
Staunton State Park is a roughly 3,900‑acre Colorado state park in Park and Jefferson counties, about 6 miles west of Conifer near Pine, nestled where the foothills of the Front Range begin to rise more steeply.
The park features a mix of open grasslands, rocky foothills, dense forest pockets, and dramatic granite cliffs that rise above 10,000 feet, with several streams and a small but scenic waterfall known as Elk Falls. It opened to the public in 2013 and grew from land originally donated in 1986 by Frances Hornbrook Staunton, whose family homesteaded, ranch‑built, and logged the area in the early 20th century, preserving a rich local history tied to the landscape.
Today visitors hike, mountain bike, and horseback ride on more than 30 miles of trails, enjoy rock climbing on the Staunton Rocks, fish in streams and ponds, and camp in a modest campground, all while encountering varied plant and animal life across a steep elevation gradient from about 8,100 feet up to the higher cliffs.
