Thumb Cove State Marine Park is a 720-acre protected coastal area on the east side of Resurrection Bay, about 7.5 to 9 miles south of Seward, Alaska, accessible only by private boat, floatplane, or commercial water taxi with no road access.
It features a peaceful anchorage sheltered from bay winds, a long sandy-gravel beach, forested uplands of spruce, hemlock, and alder, dramatic rock faces, cascading waterfalls, and the towering Porcupine Glacier as its centerpiece. Visitors enjoy two public-use cabins (including wheelchair-accessible Spruce Glacier Cabin), backcountry beach camping, sea kayaking, salmon fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and campfires amid pristine scenery, though winter access is challenging due to rough seas and weather.
