State Park
Wadsworth Falls State Park, established in 1942 after being donated by Clarence Wadsworth, is a scenic natural area spanning approximately 285 acres between the towns of Middletown and Middlefield in Connecticut.
The park is renowned for its stunning waterfalls, notably Wadsworth Big Falls, a 30-foot cascade on the Coginchaug River, and Wadsworth Little Falls, which drops about 40 feet along Wadsworth Brook. The park's landscape features unique geological formations such as Hampden Basalt and Portland Arkose, creating diverse scenic views that attract hikers, nature lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Originally part of Wadsworth's Long Hill estate, the land was developed with trails and preserved for public recreation and conservation. Significant portions of the park, including areas near the Wadsworth Mansion at Long Hill, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Wadsworth Estate Historic District. The park offers opportunities for hiking, picnicking, fishing, and enjoying Connecticut’s rich natural heritage in a peaceful, well-preserved environment
