Park

Brantley Lake State Park, New Mexico's southernmost lake, spans over 3,000 acres in the Pecos River Valley about 12 miles north of Carlsbad at 3,295 feet elevation, featuring a reservoir created by Brantley Dam in the 1980s for flood control, irrigation, and recreation.

Opened in 1989 amid rolling grasslands and views of the Guadalupe Mountains, it offers boating with two ramps, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, fishing for bass and walleye, swimming beaches, 2.6 miles of hiking trails, and prime birdwatching along a major waterfowl migration route.

Campers choose from 51 developed sites (many with 30/50-amp electric and water), primitive shoreline options, restrooms with showers, an RV dump station, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and a visitor center, all under clear desert skies perfect for stargazing.
