Park
Cayo Costa State Park spans 2,506 acres on a barrier island south of Boca Grande and north of North Captiva in Florida's Gulf Coast, featuring nine miles of pristine white-sand beaches, pine forests, oak-palm hammocks, and mangrove swamps accessible only by private boat, ferry, or kayak.
Once home to Calusa Native Americans with ancient shell mounds and later Cuban fishing ranchos supplying Havana, it shelters shorebirds, manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, and offers world-class shelling amid wind-sculpted trees and dunes. Visitors enjoy swimming, snorkeling, fishing, birdwatching for oystercatchers and frigatebirds, hiking trails, primitive tent camping at 30 sites, 12 rustic cabins, picnicking, bike rentals, and boat slips in this untouched paradise open daily from 8 a.m. to sundown.
