State Park
Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island, is a scenic 464-acre public park located on Poppasquash Neck along Narragansett Bay.
Originally a farmland estate owned by industrialist Samuel P. Colt, nephew of gun manufacturer Samuel Colt, the park features rolling lawns, stone walls, curving drives, and remnants of the Colt family's grand farm, including a stone barn that once housed prize Jersey cattle. The large entrance is marked by bronze statues of bulls symbolizing the estate's history.
Colt State Park officially opened as a state park in 1968 and offers recreational opportunities such as ten playfields, six picnic groves with over 300 tables, walking, jogging, and bike trails spanning around four miles, a public boat ramp, restrooms, and an open-air Chapel by the Sea.
The park is a valued community space known for its natural beauty, waterfront views, well-maintained facilities, and deep ties to Rhode Island's industrial and agricultural heritage.
