This alpine glacial lake, created by the 1918 Eagle Nest Dam on the Cimarron River, offers prime fishing for stocked trout and salmon from shore, boat, or ice in winter, plus non-motorized boating, kayaking, and waterskiing amid Sangre de Cristo Mountain views including Wheeler Peak.
Visitors enjoy 80 shaded campsites with electric hookups, modern restrooms and showers, hiking trails, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, picnicking, and abundant wildlife like elk, deer, bears, and bald eagles in a cool high-country retreat.
