Givhans Ferry State Park in South Carolina spans 988 acres along the Edisto River, North America's longest free-flowing blackwater river, and was established in 1934 with development by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Named for ferry operator Phillip Givhan who crossed travelers between Charleston and Augusta in the late 1700s, it features protected limestone bluffs formed from prehistoric ocean deposits, hiking trails, a mountain bike path, and his granddaughter's historic gravesite.
The park offers rustic cabins, shaded campsites for RVs and tents, fishing, kayaking on the 21-mile Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail ending here from Colleton State Park, tubing, picnicking, and riverfront views from the welcome center.
