Harding Lake State Recreation Area is a longstanding 61-acre lakeside campground in Alaska's Interior, located at mile 321.4 of the Richardson Highway about 44 miles southeast of Fairbanks near Salcha, named after President Warren G. Harding who visited the region shortly before his death in 1923.
Established in 1967 as one of Alaska State Parks' oldest sites, it offers around 95 campsites including drive-in spots for tents and RVs up to 40 feet with no hookups, five group walk-in sites, picnic areas with shelters, a playground, vault toilets, water pumps, and a boat launch accessing the nearly three-mile-wide, 140-foot-deep lake fed by springs, runoff, and inlets.
Popular from May to September for trout fishing, boating, kayaking, swimming from a sandy beach, a half-mile nature trail through spruce and birch forests for wildlife viewing, and group activities like baseball and volleyball with equipment available at the ranger station, it provides a lively yet scenic base midway between Fairbanks and Delta Junction.
