Park
Little Manatee River State Park, a 2,433-acre preserve south of Sun City Center near Tampa in Hillsborough County, Florida, follows the scenic Little Manatee River—an Outstanding Florida Water—for 4.5 miles through 12 diverse ecosystems like pine flatwoods, scrub, oak hammocks, floodplain swamps, and oxbow wetlands.
Once a recreation area since 1974 and a full state park since 1999, it shelters manatees, alligators, river otters, deer, gopher tortoises, Sherman's fox squirrels, sandhill cranes, and abundant birds amid its wild southern half. Visitors paddle kayaks or canoes along narrow channels and oxbows, hike a premier 6.5-mile loop trail plus over 15 miles of shared-use paths in the northern wilderness.
Ride horses or bikes on equestrian trails, fish for freshwater species, picnic by the river, and camp at full-facility sites, primitive spots, or group areas; open daily from 8 a.m. to sundown.
