History Museum
The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper, Wyoming, is an 11,000-square-foot museum dedicated to the history and stories of several National Historic Trails, including the Oregon, Mormon Pioneer, California, and Pony Express trails that crossed Wyoming.
Opened in 2002, the center was created through a partnership between the Bureau of Land Management, the city of Casper, and the National Historic Trails Center Foundation, supported by federal and local funding.
The center offers seven galleries with interactive exhibits, multimedia presentations, and simulations such as covered wagon and stagecoach rides that bring to life the experiences of early explorers, Native Americans, and pioneers who traveled westward.
Visitors can also enjoy interpretive trails on the surrounding 500 acres that showcase wagon ruts and scenic views of the North Platte River. The center aims to educate the public about the challenges and cultural heritage of the American West through engaging and immersive exhibits, making it a popular destination for families, history enthusiasts, and travelers alike. Admission is free, and the center hosts special events and living history demonstrations throughout the year.
