Park
Sinks Canyon State Park is a 600-acre public recreation and nature preserve in the Wind River Mountains, six miles southwest of Lander, Wyoming, along Wyoming Highway 131, renowned for its unique geology where the Middle Fork Popo Agie River vanishes into an underground limestone cavern called "the Sinks" and reemerges a quarter-mile downstream in a calm trout-filled pool known as "the Rise."
Managed by Wyoming State Parks since 1971, it features a visitor center at the Sinks with observation decks, hiking and biking trails, rock climbing on dramatic canyon walls, fishing, picnicking, two campgrounds including Sawmill and Popo Agie, and access to nearby lakes like Worthen Meadow Reservoir, plus abundant wildlife viewing and International Dark Sky Park status for stargazing.
