Nature Preserve
Belle Isle Marsh Reservation is a 350‑acre urban nature preserve in East Boston, Massachusetts, containing the largest remaining salt marsh within the city and one of the last substantial salt‑marsh systems along the Boston Harbor shoreline. Managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, it protects coastal wetlands, tidal creeks, and patches of upland parkland that host hundreds of bird species, many of which are threatened or endangered, as well as diverse salt‑marsh plants and marine life. The reservation offers walking trails and a short boardwalk through the marsh, giving visitors a rare chance to experience tidal wetlands, birdwatching, and quiet green space in the heart of the metropolitan area while also serving as a natural buffer against coastal flooding and climate impacts.
