Park
Buffalo Bill State Park surrounds the 9,000-acre Buffalo Bill Reservoir on the Shoshone River in Park County, Wyoming, just nine miles west of Cody along US Highway 14/16/20 and 40 miles from Yellowstone National Park's east entrance.
Named for William "Buffalo Bill" Cody who owned much of the land and founded nearby Cody, the park features the historic Buffalo Bill Dam—once the world's highest at 325 feet when completed in 1910—and dramatic Absaroka Range peaks including Rattlesnake, Cedar (Spirit), Logan, Sheep, and Carter Mountains.
Managed by Wyoming State Parks since 1957, it provides boating with ramps, fishing, waterskiing, hiking, hunting, picnicking across nine day-use areas, and two campgrounds—North Fork (62 sites) and Lake Shore (37 sites)—open year-round with winter water shutoffs.
