Park
Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park, formerly John U. Lloyd Beach State Park, spans 310 acres in Dania Beach near Fort Lauderdale in Broward County, Florida, USA, preserving the last undeveloped coastal ecosystem in the area with 2.5 miles of oceanfront beach, Whiskey Creek manatee sanctuary, coastal hammocks, mangroves, and artificial reefs like the Dania Beach Erojacks.
Renamed in 2016 to honor civil rights leaders Dr. Von D. Mizell and Eula Johnson, who led 1950s-1960s "wade-in" protests to desegregate Broward beaches after it served as the county's segregated "colored beach," the park offers swimming, fishing, boating from two ramps, canoeing and kayaking rentals, hiking and biking on a half-mile nature trail, picnicking at seven pavilions, and wildlife viewing.
Open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset, it provides an accessible escape with education center exhibits despite ongoing closures like certain restrooms and beach access as of March 2026.
