Park
Beartown State Forest spans over 12,000 acres across Great Barrington, Monterey, Lee, and Tyringham in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation as a year-round haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Home to the pristine 35-acre Benedict Pond—created by Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s—it offers swimming, fishing, non-motorized boating, and a 1.7-mile interpretive loop trail amid rich deciduous forests, old-growth hemlocks, brooks, beaver ponds, wildflowers, and vibrant fall foliage. The forest hosts 7.5 miles of the Appalachian Trail, extensive paths for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling, plus year-round camping and wildlife viewing of black bears, bobcats, deer, fishers, and beavers.
