Park
Breakheart Reservation spans 652 acres across Saugus and Wakefield in Massachusetts, featuring a hardwood forest, two freshwater lakes—Silver Lake and Pearce Lake—a winding section of the Saugus River, and rocky hilltops with scenic views of Boston and rural New England. Managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, it offers over 18 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing, plus a lifeguarded swimming beach, fishing, a fenced off-leash dog park called Barking Lot, picnic areas with propane grills, a playground, pavilion, visitor center, and educational programs. Developed from a 19th-century hunting retreat called Breakheart Hill Forest and enhanced by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, it preserves historic iron works sites and diverse wildlife amid its historic parkways listed on the National Register.
