Park

Granger Stage Station State Historic Site in Granger, Wyoming, preserves one of the earliest and most important stagecoach stops on the Overland Trail, originally built around 1850 as the dugout-style Ham's Fork station near the Ham's Fork-Black's Fork river confluence and replaced in 1856 by a sturdy two-room stone structure renamed South Bend Station. This crossroads for multiple pioneer routes—including the Oregon, California, Mormon Pioneer, Pony Express, Overland, and Cherokee Trails—served thousands of passengers like Horace Greeley and Mark Twain under Ben Holladay's stage line before becoming a Pony Express relay in 1861-62 and later a Union Pacific Railroad hub in 1868, when workers renamed the site Granger. Donated to Wyoming in 1930 and listed on the National Register in 1970, the site now features the intact building, interpretive signs, and a monument highlighting transcontinental travel eras amid remote high plains.
