Park
Myles Standish State Forest is the largest publicly owned recreation area in southeastern Massachusetts, covering more than 12,400 acres across the towns of Plymouth and Carver, about 45 miles south of Boston.
It lies within the Atlantic coastal pine‑barrens ecoregion and consists largely of pitch‑pine and scrub‑oak woodlands growing on sandy soil, including one of the largest pine‑barrens ecosystems in the world. The forest encircles more than 50 sensitive coastal plain kettle ponds and 16 lakes, which support dozens of rare plant and animal species, as well as plenty of opportunities for swimming.
Fishing, canoeing, biking on paved and forest paths, camping, and horseback riding, all managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
